Information integration in a collaborative web portal along the spatial dimension

The increasing use of the World Wide Web give rise to an incessant flow of new information. An example is the collaborative web portal developed at the University of Colombo School of Computing. It allows the generation of a large amount of spatially referenced, domain un-restricted information through community input. Some of this information is redundant, some erroneous, and some plainly malicious. In order for this information to be made useful, the task of integrating it to a coherent whole and of presenting it in a usable way has to be undertaken. This paper presents an effort at accomplishing this task through the utilization of the spatial dimension as a central pivot around which to integrate the data.
