Abstract :
A small optically-coupled electric field sensor suitable for making shielding effectiveness measurements of small enclosures over the frequency range 50 MHz to 2 GHz has been developed. The application is to make a measurement of the received field inside a small shielded box or cylinder where available field sensors and antennae will not fit. System performance and validation are briefly described. Extension of the frequency range to 18 GHz using the same principle, but with a specially designed miniature antenna as the sensing element, in place of the dipole, is considered in the light of the 2 GHz measurement results
