Abstract :
We proposed a linear vernier machine with permanent magnets on armature side only. In this machine, the armature winding and permanent magnets are located on the mover; therefore, the stator is composed only of an iron core with small teeth. This feature contributes greatly to low-cost linear machine system for long distance application. However, higher force densities will likely be required to improve the scope of this machine´s applicability. For this reason, we investigated the permanent magnet arrangement and achieved an improvement in the force density of 68% in evaluations through the finite element analysis. This paper presents the details of the investigations.
