Abstract :
Summary form only given. We proposed a new measurement method for the nonlinear optical (NLO) property of the Yb3+/Al3+ co-doped optical fibers with low cost, high reliability, and simple measurement setup. A long-period fiber grating (LPG) pair was used as a sensing part of the NLO property measurement together with the target fiber spliced between the pair. The pump-induced phase change of the Yb3+/Al3+ co-doped fibers was measured and the effect of fiber length on the NLO property was investigated. The measured phase change of the Yb3+/Al3+ co-doped fiber around 1580 nm upon pumping with laser diode was found to increase and saturate with increase of the pump power.
