Abstract :
This paper presents a new method to analyze and synthesize facial expressions for model-based coding, which uses optical flow to estimate the movements of facial feature points and then obtains the motion vectors based on motion correlation and block correlation. With the motion vectors estimated, a facial expression can be synthesized by adjusting the existing 3-D facial model. Preliminary experimental results demonstrate that the approach proposed is feasible for very low bit rate transmission (e.g. MPEG-4 application)
