A study on teachers´ online distance learning at Shangluo University

Abstract :
Online distance learning, a low-cost and effective option of self-teaching and self-improvement can be employed to transform the learning and academic pursuit of college teachers, especially those teaching and living in suburban institutes and colleges. This research uses a descriptive, qualitative case study approach to identify the advantages and disadvantages of computer-aided online distance learning for college teachers at Shangluo University, based on interviews, group discussions and statistics collected in an online learning task. It is found that online distance learning is characteristic of resourcefulness and adaptability, while it is of limited interaction and instruction variation, while requiring a certain degree of individuals´ metacognition and cognitive strategies, self-regulation and IT skills.
