Abstract
Channel estimation is indispensable when a coherent demodulation is adopted to achieve the 3 dB SNR gain in OFDM transmission systems. In this paper, a novel frequency domain OFDM channel estimator based on the nonmaximally decimated filterbanks and the corresponding pilot design optimization method is developed. Compared with the conventional LS and DFT-based MMSE methods, the proposed scheme does not require any channel statistics and is able to achieve a lower error floor in the frac14 maximum delay spread conditions as well as more suitable for the propagation environments with up to frac12 maximum delay spread. Numerical simulation results its effectiveness for practical applications
