Abstract :
This paper presents the design of a planar tapered slot antenna for use in a UWB microwave imaging system. In this system, an antenna is assumed to operate in a high dielectric constant medium in order to get a good match with an irradiated object. It contains resistive layers to enhance its front-to-back ratio. Results of simulations and measurements indicate that the proposed antenna can cover an ultra wide frequency band from 1.8 GHz to more than 12 GHz with high directivity. The time domain behavior of the antenna is determined and shows its fine capability to support transmission of short duration pulses with negligible distortion.
