Abstract :
We utilized a fiber optical parametric amplifier (OPA) pumped by the gain-clamping signal of a high power (>23 dBm) GS thulium doped fibre amplifier (TDFA) to expand the gain bandwidth toward wavelengths shorter than the S-band range. We simultaneously obtained net OPA gain of about 25 dB from 1445 nm to 1470 nm, and similar GS-TDFA gain from 1470 nm to 1500 nm. We also demonstrated WDM signal amplification using this novel scheme. This novel approach may provide means of expanding gain bandwidth to new ranges in future communication systems.
