Abstract :
A logical virtual path (VP) based network provides an effective way to facilitate the dynamic resource management in ATM networks. The physical topology of an ATM network should be designed to provide flexibility to the logical VP reconfiguration in order to adapt to changing traffic conditions. Three different physical design algorithms are considered. Two parameters in the design control the spare capacity and the alternative path allocation providing the flexibility to the VPs. The algorithms are evaluated under both static and dynamic capacity allocation schemes using simulation
