Abstract
The fine time resolution of ultra wideband (UWB) signals enables the UWB signals have potential applications in high-resolution ranging. This paper proposes a simple method for precisely ranging by using the estimate of the time of arrival (TOA) of the direct path signal. The TOA estimates are performed by weighting the TOAs of the first path signal and the strongest path signal and the weighting coefficient is determined by a fuzzy logic technique. Measurement data of realistic UWB radio link was used in the simulation and the results showed that the proposed algorithm can reach good accuracy even in dense multipath environments
