Abstract :
The impact of the SOA modulation bandwidth on the SOA-MZI regenerative performance has been theoretically analyzed. Numerical simulations made it possible to identify optimized values for modulation bandwidth near 30 GHz for 40 Gbit/s operation. Considering then all-optical regenerators incorporating such SOA-MZI of optimized modulation bandwidth, we have numerically shown the feasibility of a 9×40 Gbit/s regenerated WDM transmission over 2400 km, with no alteration of the eye diagrams during propagation. As a next step, impact of demux/mux filter shapes will be considered. These results clearly underline the potential of SOA-MZI-based optical regeneration for the design of high quality 40 Gbit/s WDM Ultra-Long Haul (ULH) transmissions.
