Abstract :
We have demonstrated the feasibility of a low-cost PON for the distribution of broadband digital TV signals and interactive data (as in an LMDS access scenario) within a building, high-rise, or block of houses environment, using inexpensive technology. The system has the potential to be very competitive with respect to those ones based on coaxial cable, both in cost and performance. This approach permits to solve the problem of reaching the end-users from a Master Antenna, avoiding the substantial drawbacks that would develop if thick coax cables with distributed RF amplification were to be used.
