Abstract :
In order to make the operating system in education easier to understand and practice, we advise to introduce a kind of nanokernel to the beginner because the concept of nanokernel was to reduce the kernel to basic schedular, interrupt and timer, and let others reside in user space in forms of normal processes. XtratuM as a special nanokernel is a part of OCERA(Open Components for Embedded Real-time Application) project in Europe. A feature of XtratuM is that it can realize executing several operating system in the same hardware. As a nanokernel with less than 5000 lines source codes, XtratuM has its prospects in resolving complex requirements in embedded developing area. it is worth a try to introduce XtratuM as an instructional operating system.
