Abstract :
This paper presents a unified development for several physically distinct EBG structures useful for noise suppression in parallel-plate waveguides that are power distribution networks. The origin for this development is the concept of a wire media, which is well known as a metamaterial for its effective negative permittivity over a broad frequency range. We present a method of analysis using a rigorous dispersion equation and show some typical results. During the presentation, applications of this technology will be presented highlighting the pros and cons of these different EBG structures. Comments will be offered regarding the challenges of transitioning such EBG concepts into the market place.
