Abstract :
Axisymmetrical large abdominal aortic aneurysms are considered in terms of formulated dimensionless parameters reflecting geometry and the actual arterial waveform under steady state conditions. Numerical solution of the differential equations yields wall shear stresses and normal forces which are verified experimentally in vitro. It is established that, depending on the parameter magnitudes, there are one or two separation regions. It is verified that the maximum stresses are located at the exit neck of the aneurysm. The separation regions found in the experimental and numerical results are observed to be the site for clots formation in a live specimen of an aneurysm removed during surgery
