Abstract :
This paper gives some idea as to the different failure mechanisms that can affect modern power cable accessories-at least, the ones known about at the moment. Undoubtedly, in time, others, as yet unknown, will be discovered and only by correct diagnosis of the problems can they be designed out of the accessory, and power cable reliability be improved. A failure should not be seen as a disaster, but as an opportunity to learn and make progress
