Abstract :
This paper describes the design and testing of a universal controller application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) device which implements control strategies by consideration of the input-output controller surface. A novel feature of the design is the incorporation of some of the principles of fuzzy logic. This offers fast input decoding and surface data point extraction by the use of combinational logic without the need for any calculation. It also allows for efficient interpolation between surface data points on route to the final controller output. The principles of design for test have also been incorporated within the device, which include post fabrication test and diagnostics and run-time self test
