Abstract :
This paper reviews the standards and design techniques used in order to increase the efficiency of induction motors in order to meet the IE4 standards. The standards are first reviewed then some of the aspects of induction motor operation are assessed. The conclusion is that IE4 standards are obtainable but careful design is needed to reach this. Examples from the literature are given.
