Abstract :
The scaling properties of a new multi-threaded integral solver are presented. This integral equation solver includes both a new full matrix solver and SVD-based fast solver. Both solvers show about a 20% to 30% performance overhead when moving from a single processor to a dual processor. For higher end desktop PC´s having multiple processors is now standard. And desktop computers with effectively eight processors are readily available. To use this computing power, the structure of both the algorithm and code must be redesigned. The parallel programming paradigm is no longer only for the realm supercomputers, but is required to fully exploit today´s desktop computer.
