Abstract :
A practical new approach to the design of an excitation based power system stabiliser is presented. The problem is formulated as a standard static state feedback control problem, for which a static state feedback controller is designed. The state controller is then projected to an output controller from which the stabiliser parameters are deduced in a straightforward manner. A power system comprising a synchronous machine connected via a transmission line to a large network is considered. Simulation results show significant improvement in the performance of the power system
