Abstract :
In this paper, we present fast handover mechanism for seamless connectivity and QoS support between fixed and mobile networks. The proposed mechanism utilizes the mobile-assisted and mobility agent-initiated handover strategy. Based on proposed mechanism, when disconnection occurs without the prediction in fixed networks, multi-homing and pre-allocation of new care-of-address is performed through handover decision. In performance evaluation, we simulate the handover latency time as the offered traffic load increases. The proposed mechanism is compared against traditional handover mechanism. Simulation result using OPNET shows that the proposed mechanism improves handover latency time in broadband convergence network environment
