  • Abstract
    Recently, mobile IPv6 has been standardized to provide seamless roaming for mobile users in IPv6 network. However, current IP networks are predominantly based on IPv4 technology and most of the firewalls have been designed for these networks. These firewalls will interfere in the smooth operation of mobile IPv6 and can be a detriment to deployment. In this paper, we propose a mobile IPv6 firewall traversal scheme integrating with AAA protocol. By defining several diameter extension messages between the AAA server and firewall, the firewall policies can be adjusted dynamically to provide the mobile IPv6 entities with transparent communication. The solution requires neither any modification of mobile IPv6 protocol nor to add special network components. Furthermore, the scheme is based on hierarchical network model and taking AAA factors into consideration. Therefore, it suits the operation mode of many service providers as well
