  • Abstract
    A new power train topology for vehicles with electrical machines is introduced, including a photovoltaic energy source, to realize a range extender based vehicle. A new direct energy conversion scheme is applied, being combinable with conventional setups like hybrids, electrical vehicles or already established range extenders and independent of the type of electrical machine. Using this power train configuration, a standard inverter is used in parallel for energy conversion in terms of propulsion demands and charging aspects. For the first time photovoltaic energy and electrical stored energy is converted at the same time with one standard power train inverter offering high efficiency and increased reliability.
