  • Abstract
The soft architecture of network servers have very important effects on their performance. In this paper, the architectures of several prevalent servers and their future are introduced. Then a new soft architecture for a high performance server was proposed, which we call the symmetric multi-processes event-driven (SMPED) architecture. In SMPED, a novel scheduling algorithm was introduced, which makes use of real throughput of each service process to distribute connection and resource. Finally, we evaluate the performance of a Web server based on SMPED. The simulated results show that SMPED is better than several servers on performance
