Abstract :
The fuzzy speed control of a diesel locomotive for coal transportation is presented. The coal loading and unloading operations require very accurate train speed control in a low speed range while the weight of the whole train is varying. To increase the transportation efficiency and productivity throughput, an automatic coal train operation system using fuzzy logic control, which can perform as a skilled human operator, is introduced. Simulation results have shown that the proposed fuzzy speed control system outperforms the PID control with smoother control action and is more robust under target speed variations and varying load disturbance
