Abstract :
Describes a simulation study into the control of the first torsional vibration mode-`shuffle´-of vehicle drivetrains. The emphasis is on assessing the influence of system nonlinearities, and to this end a nonlinear design algorithm based on generalised optimal control theory is explored. The relative benefits of the nonlinear control scheme are assessed in comparison with an LQR controller, using a simple nonlinear system model
