Abstract :
Switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive has a remarkable characteristic, which makes it attractive for high-speed in low voltage applications. In this paper, a new drive circuit from the bifilar family which uses resonant circuit during discharge period is presented. The new topology provides faster rate of current discharge, which permits the motor to operate at higher speeds. In the new circuit, a capacitor is connected in series with the motor bifilar winding. In addition, a lossless snubber has been employed to prevent high voltage peaks produced on the power switching transistor. A detailed explanation and demonstration of the converter circuit using simulation and experimental have also been presented. Finally, a comparison between the different waveforms of a regular bifilar converter and the new resonant bifilar converter is also presented.
