Abstract :
A single probe-fed EE shape lambda/2 dipole antenna is proposed for active RFID applications. The antenna has many attractive features including simple fed configuration, broadside radiation, easy frequency adjustment and impedance tuning. A special attention is been paid to the influence of a metal background to the impedance matching condition and the radiation pattern for the applications such as a container shipment. From the simulation and the measurement results it is found that the proposed antenna is suitable for the applications with a large metal background. A lossy transmission line model is also proposed for describing the input impedance of the antenna. The model is validated by a full-wave EM simulation.
