Abstract
A theorem for designing planar microstrip antennas with reduced surface-wave excitation has been given and validated by using patches printed on multi-layered substrates. The theorem states that the excitation of the TM0 surface wave is eliminated if the patch cavity is filled with a material having an effective relative permittivity that satisfies.
