Summary form only given. The author presents Telesat Mobile´s vision of the scope and integration of new applications for the transportation market. The corporation´s current development and implementation program and short-term plans are reviewed. It is noted that to achieve a competitive advantage in North American industry an open architecture approach, industry-wide cooperation, and a strong application focus are required.<>
