Abstract :
We investigated the effective medium properties of metallic wire arrays. The extracted effective permittivity and permeability of a physically realizable wire array show that for certain frequency range, both low permittivity and refraction index can be achieved. We confirmed the feasibility of using the wire arrays as an effective low refraction index by studying a 2-D band gap structure embedded in the wire array.
