Abstract :
Due to the increasing prices of gasoline in the world market, more and more customers and car manufacturers are looking forward to the alternate energy sources to power up their vehicles. A lot of research has been taking place and vehicles fitted with solar cells, fuel cells, battery powered vehicles as well as hybrid vehicles are becoming available in the market. Cost as well as weight of the vehicle are the two main constraints faced by customers while going for such type of vehicles. Overall efficiency of the entire motor drive system becomes a critical factor since it can directly affect weight of the batteries, and hence the vehicle cost. In this paper, a new technique called vector control technique is described, which offers better efficiency of motor drive system, good acceleration/ deceleration and accurate control of the vehicle parameters. This technique uses accurate estimation of the motor electric parameters, thereby controlling the motor drive system with an optimum performance and is well suited for the electric vehicle applications.
