Abstract
In this paper, we propose the use of adaptive equalizer to reduce recording head test time by employing the least mean-squared (LMS) algorithm to adapt the filter coefficients to search for the optimal coefficients. The effects of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), step size and resolution on the convergent time are investigated. The comparison between the conventional combinatorial-based method and the LMS method show that for current read channel specification, the proposed method requires test time less than 30% than the conventional approach depending on the initial deviation from the recommended coefficient values.
