Abstract :
In this work, we investigate the use of very high-k dielectrics epsivtau > 100 in the design of planar EBG structures as strong contenders of surface wave suppressor for EMI/EMC applications. The basic idea behind the designs presented here is the use of high-k dielectrics to increase the capacitive load, and the use of meander-line as connectors between the patches to increase the inductance. The increased capacitance and inductance shift the bandgap to lower frequencies, or alternatively, allow for maintaining the same frequency performance but with the smaller size patches. Also increased inductance leads to widening the bandgap at lower frequencies.
