Abstract :
Commercialization of academic research has often been seen as presenting challenges, particularly dissemination of the findings of the work and resulting technology. This paper describes a regional initiative to encourage researchers to consider commercialization throughout the life of a project and not just at its conclusion. The Yorkshire Enterprise Fellowship provides a framework through which training, mentorship and practical assistance, such as protection of IP and market research, enable commercialization to become a valuable part of the research process.
