Abstract :
This paper provides a method for designing a lossless, reciprocal, and uncoupled matching network that optimizes the diversity gain of a receive antenna diversity system. It is found that the matching network behaves as a beamforming network that can achieve improved performance relative to more traditional uncoupled matching networks for channels in which the received power is directionally biased. The beamformer is shown to exhibit mild superdirective characteristics for close element spacing.
