  • Abstract
Time reuse capture access (TRCA) is a packet access protocol proposed for personal communication services (PCS). The protocol is based on time reuse rather than frequency reuse. A time frame is divided into slots where each slot corresponds to one cell in the reuse cluster. Each mobile user in the cell may transmit in any time slot of the frame with probabilities associated with the cell it currently belongs. The protocol also exploits the power capture phenomenon. Simultaneous transmissions between users within a cell or in adjacent cells may result in packet capture which can increase the system throughput. This paper presents throughput and delay analyses when the time reuse factor is three. The system throughput (delay) is then maximized (minimized) by optimizing the values of the transmission probabilities for each time slot in the frame. A throughput improvement of 35% is achievable compared with a TDMA system
