Abstract :
SYMCELL is a standard cell system that enables cells to be created, placed, and globally routed symbolically. Cell rows are compacted and pitchmatched, and channels are routed for a specific set of design rules. The symbolic cell libraries can be maintained independent of the process design rules, and new cells can be designed with the ease of symbolic layout. Circuit speed and layout density approach that of custom layouts. The system is currently in use at Bellcore on prototype chip designs for broadband and HDTV research
