Abstract
Voltage endurance tests have been used for many years to qualify new insulation systems for stator coils and bars as well as for quality control purposes. An industry recommended practice for the test method was adopted in 1989. In 2002 an industry standard was adopted for test conditions and pass/fail criteria for stator coils and bars used in hydro generator applications. In this paper the application of the new standard is reviewed after a brief description of the test method.
