Abstract :
The finite difference time domain (FDTD) method has been applied to an investigation on the attenuation characteristics of partial discharge (PD) pulses propagating through various parts constituting a gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), such as insulators and T-junctions. A simulator for analyzing three-dimensional transient electromagnetic fields using the FDTD method is considered to be the most promising technique for evaluating outputs from UHF couplers, and for confirming the sensitivity of couplers to satisfy sensitivity verification according to CIGRE recommendation [1].
