            Abstract :
Knowledge-based approaches are increasingly becoming widespread in process control engineering as they provide a more comprehensive approach to industrial control than the traditional methods based entirely on algorithmic methods. In fact, it is more common now to view algorithmic methods as simply a component of a more comprehensive knowledge-based strategy. In this paper, we consider the development of a knowledge-based approach to provide an estimation procedure for the dead-time in industrial processes. This development forms a module within a larger project for development of an intelligent knowledge-based process controller
