Abstract :
This paper addresses some major problems in steel plant power systems such as voltage fluctuations and flicker, load unbalance, current harmonics and reactive power and demonstrates the significance of reactive power management for steel plants power system. Two One-Cycle Control techniques for Hexagram Converter based STATCOM are presented. The first technique effectively achieves load balancing, harmonic filtering and reactive power compensation using current control mode of the dual-core One-Cycle controller while the second one employs voltage control mode for the voltage support and flicker mitigation, which are demonstrated by the simulation results.
