Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate a new assembly method for hard disk drives, i.e. by shape memory alloys. There are two particular applications of our current interest. One is the assembly of the spindle with record medium and the other is the assembly of the driving arm with read/write head. We discuss the main issues in the design of assembly and present the results of the experimental investigation.
