Abstract
Degradation in the real-time streaming performance of Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) is being investigated in connection with the development of consumer electronics applications involving audiovisual (AV) recording and playback. Preliminary results indicate that although hard data errors do not readily occur, there is serious cause for concern regarding the effect of an increasing number of long error recoveries on the streaming performance.
