Abstract :
In the past decade, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLPP) has initiated the application of a series of condition monitoring techniques on its power equipment so as to allow progressive change of its equipment maintenance strategies from time-based preventive tasks to more condition-based predictive tasks. The data collected from the HV GIS, cables and overhead lines form useful information in maximizing the availability and enhancing reliability of the HV equipment. This paper describes the selection, field application, practice and experience with those on-line and off-line monitoring techniques implemented in CLPP. A variety of field applications will be discussed, including partial discharge (PD) monitoring/detection on GIS and power cables in the transmission and distribution network, SF6 gas leakage pinpointing on HV GIS, disc pollution supervision system (DPSS) for overhead insulation disc and leakage current monitoring of 400 kV metal oxide arresters (MOA).
