Abstract
A model predictive control based minimum variance control (MVC) scheme for the track following control of DVD-ROMs is studied in this paper. An add-on signal with enough excitation is combined with the control signal coming from the DVD control chip to drive the track following servo system such that the tracking error within a certain range is minimized. From the simulation results, we can safely draw the conclusion that the performance (or variance) of the proposed control is indeed better than that when only using the control signal from the DVD control chip.
