Abstract :
A stable head disk magnetic recording system with 3/spl sim/4 nm flying height will be needed as technology approaches 800/spl sim/1000 Gb/sq/sup 2/. At the same time, it is important to increase read/write frequency and writing current, aiming to improve data transferring rate conduct saturated data recording over high coercivity media. As a result, it must make sure that large current writing at high writing frequency would not generate any effect, which changes flying height and its stability. This paper reports results of experimental investigations into the effect of writing induced internal heating process of magnetic writing head on the flying height and its stability during read/write operations. Furthermore, several methods for the confirmation of such observation are given.
