Abstract
A field study was made of fourteen new production process implementations to determine factors related to success in the introduction of new technology. Both success and failure cases were selected. A questionnaire was used to gather data from ninety-eight respondents. The results report indicate than an extremely high correlation exists between planning for the introduction of new production processes and successful implementation. Twenty factors are identified that are thought to explain why planning is critical to success. It was determined that there is a particularly strong relationship between planning and participative management
