Abstract :
A case study of strength and vibration in aircraft turbine engines is included. Technical interactions of projects are explicitly considered. Fuzzy Isodata is used for measuring benefit contributions and technical interactions of projects. In the solution procedure, experiences and preferences of R&D managers are considered. The projects are fuzzily classified into five categories in terms of evaluations of the benefits and the interactions by using fuzzy Isodata. The manager obtains a number of feasible sets of projects by choosing and combining the two kinds of categories to be selected and then selects one set from the feasible sets while considering the restraints. The utility of this method is demonstrated in a case study that involved 23 project candidates. Evaluations were made by 30 experts. The results of the selection have been used by the manager
